At Next Gen Sprints, some of the most rewarding moments in coaching come from watching young athletes turn consistent training into confident competition performances.

Rhylie and Izy recently delivered an outstanding series of results at the Sydney Catholic Schools Conference Championships, demonstrating not only their athletic ability, but also their versatility, determination and willingness to compete across multiple events.

Their performances are a fantastic example of what can happen when young athletes combine talent with consistent training, patience and a desire to improve.

Rhylie – An Outstanding All-Round Performance

Rhylie produced an exceptional championship across the track and field, competing in sprinting, jumping, throwing and relay events.

Her results included:

  • 🥇 High Jump – 1.16m

  • 🥇 Long Jump – 3.73m

  • 🥇 Shot Put – 5.90m

  • 🥈 100m Final – 15.84s

  • 200m – 32.62s

  • 🥉 Junior Girls Relay

Three individual gold medals alongside a silver in the 100m demonstrates impressive all-round athletic ability.

More importantly, Rhylie’s performance earned her qualification to the next stage of competition, where she will have another opportunity to test herself against a stronger field.

The next objective has already been identified. In the high jump, we are continuing to develop her technique, including progressing towards mastering the Fosbury Flop, as we work towards greater heights and long-term improvement.

Izy – Performing When It Matters

Izy also produced a fantastic championship:

  • 🥇 High Jump – 1.27m

  • 🥇 Long Jump – 3.70m

  • 100m – 15.59s, finishing 7th from a field of more than 60 athletes

  • 🥉 Relay

What makes these results particularly encouraging is that Izy wasn't feeling at her absolute best on competition day.

Sport will never provide perfect conditions every time. Athletes have days when they feel fantastic and others when things simply don't feel right. Learning to remain composed, compete and execute regardless is an important part of becoming a stronger athlete.

To still walk away with two gold medals and a top-seven sprint finish in a highly competitive field shows excellent resilience.

Why Multi-Event Development Matters for Young Athletes

At Next Gen Sprints, our focus with young athletes extends beyond simply making them faster.

Running, jumping and throwing expose developing athletes to different movement challenges. Sprinting develops acceleration, coordination and speed. Jumping requires explosive power, rhythm and body control, while throwing introduces different strength and coordination demands.

Developing these qualities provides young athletes with a broad athletic foundation that can support their future performance, whether they continue in athletics or transfer those abilities into another sport.

At a young age, development should come before specialisation.

Success Is Built Between Competitions

Medals are the visible part of sport. What people don't always see are the training sessions that happen before them.

Progress is built through consistently showing up, practising technique, developing strength and speed, learning new skills, making mistakes, receiving feedback and coming back the following week ready to improve again.

That's what makes performances like these so rewarding.

Rhylie and Izy continue to demonstrate an excellent attitude towards their development, and we couldn't be prouder to see their hard work translating into competition results.

But this isn't the finish line.

It's another checkpoint in their development.

With bigger competitions ahead, the focus now returns to training, refining technique and preparing them to perform even better at the next opportunity.

Congratulations, Rhylie and Izy. An incredible achievement and thoroughly deserved! 🏆

Developing the Next Generation of Athletes in Sydney

Next Gen Sprints provides professional speed and athletic development coaching for young athletes across Sydney.

Our training focuses on sprint mechanics, acceleration, maximum velocity, strength and power, plyometrics, agility, jumping ability, movement quality and overall athletic development.

Through individual performance assessment and structured coaching, our aim is simple: identify where an athlete is today, understand where they want to go, and build the right pathway to help them get there.

Train with purpose. Develop with confidence. Perform when it matters.
